The meeting of Indian security specialists and representatives of defense agencies from other friendly countries with RIAC experts was held during their visit to Russia, organized as part of the annual professional courses for NDC students.
The welcome remarks were given by Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director General. He covered Russian approaches to the forming of armed forces and conducting of military operations in the current conditions, and clarified Russia’s position on the Ukrainian crisis and clashes on the border between India and Pakistan.
During the discussion, experts exchanged views on the most relevant issues of the international agenda for Moscow and New Delhi such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, security in Central Asia, increase in terrorist activity, even on the Russian territory. The Indian experts noted the value of combat experience gained by the Russian military and expressed particular interest in mechanisms for ensuring economic development in terms of a military operation.
The Russian side was represented by Vassily Kashin, Director of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies at HSE University, RIAC member; Pyotr Topychkanov, Head of Section for New Challenges in South and Southeast Asia IMEMO RAS; Julia Melnikova, Head of RIAC’s Asia and Eurasia Program.
