On July 1-2, 2015, RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov and RIAC expert Professor Irina Busygina of Comparative Political Science Chair at MGIMO-University were in Madrid at conference "Understanding Russia: a Tryout for the European Union" organized by Elcano Royal Institute and Barcelona Centre for International Affairs with support from Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and EU program Europe for Citizens. The event was attended by about one hundred experts, diplomats, journalists and officials from Spain and other European countries.

Dr. Kortunov and Dr. Busygina delivered their reports and used the conference margins for consultations with Spanish think tanks on expansion of Russian-Spanish cooperation in examination of topical problems of European security and development, as well as future of relations between Moscow and Madrid.
