On April 17, 2025, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), in cooperation with the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, held a roundtable titled "Russia and Brazil in Search of New Forms of Cooperation". The event marked the release of the RIAC analytical report, "Russia-Brazil Relations: Political Context and Economic Cooperation".

Opening remarks were delivered by:

  • Svetlana Gavrilova, Head of the Program Department at RIAC;
  • Dmitry Rozental, Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences;

The research findings were presented by Victor Heifetz, Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Latinskaya Amerika’’, Professor at St. Petersburg State University, and Chief Researcher at the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

  • Varvara Kuznetsova, Research Fellow at the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The discussion featured contributions from:

  • Tatiana Mashkova, Director General of National Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries;
  • Ana Livia Araujo Esteves, Lecturer at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University;
  • Ivan Kryazhev, Senior Advisor at the Senior Advisor at the World Youth Festival Directorate, Research Intern at the Institute of World Military Economics and Strategy, HSE University;
  • Anna Shakhina, Executive Secretary of the Russia-Brazil Business Council;
  • Irina Isakova, Independent Expert.

The session was moderated by RIAC Program Coordinator Alexandra Terzi.

During the event, experts discussed the current state, prospects, and constraints of Russia-Brazil bilateral relations; the impact of Brazil's domestic political processes; and new forms of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in digitalization, medical services, and agribusiness.
