On April 16, 2026, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a closed academic workshop titled “The Implications of the Iran Crisis for the Contemporary World Order and the Eurasian Region.” During the event, Russian and Chinese experts presented their assessments of the consequences of the U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran for the evolving system of international relations and exchanged views on prospects for resolving the crisis.

On April 16, 2026, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a closed academic workshop titled “The Implications of the Iran Crisis for the Contemporary World Order and the Eurasian Region.” During the event, Russian and Chinese experts presented their assessments of the consequences of the U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran for the evolving system of international relations and exchanged views on prospects for resolving the crisis.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dmitry Kiku, Deputy Director General of RIAC, and Jin Zhe, Deputy Director of the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia (IREECA) at CASS.

Presentations were given by Li Yonghui, Chief Research Fellow and Head of the Department of Multilateral and Regional Cooperation at IREECA, CASS; Ivan Safranchuk, Leading Research Fellow at the Institute for International Studies of MGIMO University; Gong Xiaofei, Leading Research Fellow at the Institute of American Studies, CASS; Demokrit Zamanapulov, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Military-Political Studies, Arbatov Institute for U.S. and Canadian Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences; Han Kedi, Leading Research Fellow at the Department of Russian Foreign Policy, IREECA, CASS; Lana Ravandi-Fadai, Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Eastern Cultural Center at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences; Liu Dan, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Russian Foreign Policy, IREECA, CASS; and Vladimir Evseev, Head of the Department for Eurasian Integration and SCO Development at the CIS Institute.

The discussion was moderated by Su Chang, Head of the Administration of the China-Russia Strategic Cooperation Council at CASS.

The workshop was also attended by Yulia Melnikova, Head of the Asia and Eurasia Program at RIAC; Gleb Gryzlov, Program Manager at RIAC; and Anna Korzun, Program Assistant at RIAC.
