On April 10, 2018, the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences hosted an international conference «Russia and Finland: Historical Ties in the XX Century», marking the 100th anniversary of statehood in Finland.

The Conference was organized by RAS Institute of Universal History, Embassy of Finland in Russia, and State Academic University for Humanities. Scientists and historians from universities and research centers of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Helsinki, and Tampere took part in the conference.

Scientists and historians from universities and research centers of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Helsinki, and Tampere took part in the conference.

The participants of the conference focused on the development of Soviet-Finnish and Russian-Finnish relations throughout the 20th century, conflicts and cooperation in these relations, mutual perceptions of the two countries, and the features of Finland's foreign policy in different periods of the past century.

Aleksandr Chubarian, RIAC member, Academic Director of the RAS Institute of General History, RAS Full Member; Mikko Tapani Hautala, Finnish Ambassador to Russia; Sergey Ivanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation; Igor Neverov, Director of Second European Department of Russian MFA; and Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, made speeches at the opening session of the conference.
