Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) will be holding a presentation of the working paper entitled “Russia - Republic of Korea Relations: Revising the Bilateral Agenda” on November 12, 2013. During the presentation experts will discuss the forthcoming visit of Vladimir Putin to Seoul on November 14, 2013 and will give an outlook of the future development of relations between Russia and South Korea.
Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) will be holding a presentation of the working paper entitled “Russia - Republic of Korea Relations: Revising the Bilateral Agenda” on November 12, 2013. During the presentation experts will discuss the forthcoming visit of Vladimir Putin to Seoul on November 14, 2013 and will give an outlook of the future development of relations between Russia and South Korea.
On the initiative of RIAC, a group of leading Russian experts has prepared a paper containing specific suggestions about Russia’s pursuing its interests on the whole range of issues related to bilateral contacts. Apart from economic, business, scientific and technological cooperation special attention was given to the issue that cannon be left out - the role of Russia in finding a solution to the nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula.
After holding consultations with Russian and Korean scientists and diplomats and taking into consideration the results of the research, RIAC experts came to the conclusion that being a Europacific state, Russia can and should be part of solving the “Korean problem”. Strengthening cooperation with South Korea will not only create conditions for a more successful integration into the Asia-Pacific region, but will also help solve the issues of developing East Siberia and Far East.
