In November 2013 the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) published a working paper entitled “Assisting Development in Central Asia: Strategic Horizons of Russian Engagement” that provides information about the potential steps Russia should take in order to respond to the crisis-prone development of the countries in the region. The work that has been done by the RIAC experts is highly appreciated not only in the academic circles: CSTO Secretary General expressed his keen interest in the analytical work undertaken by the RIAC.

In his letter to RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov Nikolay Bordyuzha stated that the RIAC working paper aroused the interest of the CSTO Secretariat due to “its coverage of the instability factors in Central Asia, regional risks and security threats as well as the conclusions of the research”. The information about the aid that is already being provided will be used by the organization in its future work.
