Russian leaders should not allow the US to implement a policy of international isolation of Russia. This was stated by the head of the Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Alexei Pushkov in an interview to "Rossiyskaya Gazeta". "Washington talks about how the United States is moving to a policy of global isolation of our country ... And now the US is trying to bring EU to this policy of isolation" - said Pushkov, according to ITAR-TASS.
According to him, the US administration is primarily seeking the imposition of economic sanctions by the EU against Russia, "in order to create new fault lines between Russia and Europe in the spirit of the" cold war. "But European countries," stressed the head of the committee, "are interested in contacting Russia, not only for the financial and economic reasons."
"We are - a big important country, they have to deal with us. And we also do. Because our goal is - to prevent the United States to create such a split," - said the head of the committee.
Moreover, in his opinion, the Russian leadership should "find those countries that do not support a policy of isolation, not only in Europe." "One of these countries - China. President Putin's trip to China, a position of Beijing, are very important in this situation. Their positions have been also outlined by India, South Africa, Brazil - all BRICS countries. And we need to consolidate relations with those countries that do not follow the American policy of isolation "- added Pushkov.
He warned that "here and now the balance of world powers is tested," including "check whether the US will be able to really create an effective isolation of Russia."
"We must not allow the US to isolate Russia, including on international arena, in OSCE for example. In my opinion, we manage to achieve it. Because the world is very diverse. When we are said in the West that there is a kind of world community, which condemns us, they mean 28 NATO member states and the EU. However, this is not the world, but the west, the Euro-Atlantic community. And it is, with all its weight, not all of the world community, but only part of it," - concluded the head of the committee.
