Sergey Sanakoev

President of the Asia Pacific reserch centre, RIAC member

Russia and China have no illusion about what is happening right now in the world. We declared that after the World War II, only the United States of America opened more than 70 military conflicts. We know who the real aggressor on Earth is.

And we are talking about the hegemony that the West is trying to use to dominate all the other civilizations. But it's impossible to develop the world this way. So we ask and demand to refuse domination, and to integrate as a multipolar order, which would be fairer, more democratic, and more safe. So this is our direct message to the U.S. and the Western countries.

Editor's note: From March 20 to 22, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Russia. During the trip, President Xi and his counterpart Vladimir Putin released several joint statements and agreed to deepen cooperation. What is the main message that this visit sends? Sergey Sanakoev, president of the Asia-Pacific Region Research Center in Russia, gave us some clues. The views expressed in the video are his own and not necessarily those of CGTN.

CGTN: Chinese President Xi Jinping and his counterpart Vladimir Putinreleased a Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination for the New Era, which publicly mentioned the U.S. seven times. For example, the two sides pointed out that the U.S., was clinging to the Cold War mentality, and destabilizing the world for its unilateral gain. How do we make of China and Russia's frequent mention of the U.S.?

Sergey Sanakoev: Russia and China have no illusion about what is happening right now in the world.

CGTN: The joint statement stressed the need to resolve the Ukraine crisis "through peace talks." Russia welcomes the constructive proposals set forth in China's Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis. Facing the current crisis in Ukraine, how do you view the statements of both sides? How will this help resolve the Ukraine crisis?

Sanakoev: Certainly, we respect these proposals. And in our joint statements, we said that Russia is absolutely joining the ideas of this plan. But we also don't have illusion even on this question, because we understand that there is a puppet regime and it's very difficult to deal with them. They are doing only what they hear from their bosses from Washington. So what about Western patrons? We know already their reaction. They say, no, we don't need these plans. We only need fighting. We only need militarization, etc., they say directly. So we understand that it might be not good, the result of it, but what is most important? The whole world will see who is true and who is blind. And this is very important in this plan.

CGTN: At present, the AUKUS and relevant nuclear-powered submarine cooperation programs have aroused strong concerns in the Asia-Pacific region. How do you comment on this move by the U.S.?

Sanakoev: They are making a new NATO in the Asia-Pacific region. It's crazy of them. We even don't understand why mankind needs NATO. When they cannot answer this question, they are opening another project AUKUS in the Asia-Pacific region.

This is not the way of developing. The only way is through dialogue. That is the most important thing which is on the proposals of China in such initiatives as Global Development Initiative or the Global Security Initiative. Now we have a new initiative, Global Civilization Initiative. This is a very strong theory of Chinese President Xi Jinping about the shared future and all countries should join these initiatives; then it would be a more peaceful world and in no need for military unions.
