On June 27, 2014, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta Press Center hosted the fifth meeting of partners in the Russia Beyond the Headlines project.

During the panel discussion devoted to the Ukraine crisis impact on media and punditry publications, RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov spoke on the need to have publications properly substantiated both by facts and analysis of the conflict parties' actions, and also provided with future scenarios.

Editorial policy nuances in a political turmoil were discussed by RIAC Member Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs; Alexander Gabuyev, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Kommersant-Vlast magazine; Ekaterina Zabrovskaya, Editor-in-Chief of the Russia Direct project; and Nikolay Surkov, Deputy Editor of Russia Beyond the Headlines, who focused on the lack of reliable field information from Ukraine and difficulties in engaging the government officials, as well as on analytics, the key problem lying in pervasive emotionality that may affect the overall credibility of the media outlet.

According to Timothy Bolding, moderator of the discussion, political crises invariably offer a ground to have one's journalism criteria streamlined.
