In his welcoming address RIAC President Igor Ivanov pointed out that the two governments need a new agenda and closer cooperation based on mutual trust.
According to Ellen Tauscher, Vice-President of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council, discussion of issues related with fresh perception of strategic security symbolizes a retreat from the Cold War concepts and the start of the search for new impetus for the Russian-American relations.
The workshop participants have outlined questions of mutual interest for the parties, defined the Russian and U.S. goals and formulated the agenda for future meetings of RIAC and the Atlantic Council.
During the event, Russian and American experts discussed report “On Qualitative Transformation of Russian-American Relations in the Strategic Area” prepared by the Institute for US and Canadian Studies under the guidance of its Director Academician Sergey Rogov and the Conceptual Framework on Mutual Assured Stability of the Brent Scowcroft Center.
The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
