July 17, 2012 Summer School "Road Map for international cooperation in the Arctic" completed its work. This event was organized by the Russian International Affairs Council, in partnership with the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.Lomonosov. The venue for the Summer School has become a complex “Small Karelians” (Arkhangelsk region).

July 17, 2012 Summer School "Road Map for international cooperation in the Arctic" completed its work. This event was organized by the Russian International Affairs Council, in partnership with the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.Lomonosov. The venue for the Summer School has become a complex “Small Karelians” (Arkhangelsk region).

There were selected 20 young professionals from different cities of Russia, studying the Arctic region. Summer School program included lectures by prominent specialists on the most important aspects of international cooperation in the Arctic, round table discussions on the development of the Northern Sea Route, interests of Arctic states in space and future space technologies in the region, as well as training on team building, practice of intercultural cooperation, dialog and debate techniques of communication.

Many guest speakers attended Summer School, for example, the Head of the Department of International Law from Moscow State University, A.Vylegzhanin, lecturer of the Department of International and Comparative Law Institute SAFA, M. Melentyeva, Executive director of the nonprofit partnership “Sevmorput” V. Mihaylichenko, the chief of Naval operations staff of “Atomflot”, V.Arutyunyan, Project Coordinator of the Partnership "Northern Maritime Corridor" , B.Kharlov, the director of the Institute of Management and Regional Studies of NarFU, Y.Lukin, a leading researcher at the Institute of International Security Problems of RAS A.Fenenko and others. Experts shared their abundant experience and knowledge with the participants, and acquainted them with the basic problems of the strategically important region for Russia.

The outcome of the Summer School was a youth project "Road map for international cooperation in the Arctic", in which participants presented their recommendations to the further development of the Arctic region. The development of the document was carried out in a special business game that simulates the Arctic Council meeting in order to familiarize young experts in the Arctic with existing formats of interstate institutional arrangements and rules of their operation.
