On October 4, the Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C., hosted a regular session of the Russian-U.S. bilateral Albright-Talbott-Ivanov Arms Control Initiative operating since 2011 within the cooperation framework between the Russian International Affairs Council and the Brookings Institution.
RIAC was represented by President Igor Ivanov and Director General Andrey Kortunov, as well as by RIAC member Sergey Rogov, Director of the Institute for the U.S. and Canadian Studies. The American side included former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the Brookings Institution President Strobe Talbott and other experts in disarmament and international security.

The participants discussed destruction of chemical weapons in Syria and general aspects of the Syrian settlement, the status and outlook for Russia-NATO relations, and possible areas for cooperation between Russia and the U.S. in strengthening strategic stability and nonproliferation of the WMD.
The American side showed its interest in other RIAC activities, in particular in expanded international cooperation in exploring the Arctic region.
