On June 1, 2016 Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of RIAC, held a regular meeting with representatives of Russian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Small Mansion of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) was represented at the meeting by its Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov and Media and Government Relations Manager Anton Tsvetov .

In his speech, Sergey Lavrov noted that Russia is a part of the global world with emerging new centers of power, the Asian region including. The Minister emphasized the particular significance of the work of Russian NGOs involved in international activities at the OSCE and the Council of Europe platforms. The diplomat called on building up social intercourse with the European Union to seek a way out of the current stalemate in relations.
Sergey Lavrov urged to intensify work in the CIS space, with the CSTO and the EEU, as well as interaction with civil society organizations of Ukraine and Georgia.
