On December 2, 2014, the Russian International Affairs Council held the invitations-only roundtable "Russia-Vietnam: Proposals for a Strategic Partnership" with participation of experts from RAS Institute for Oriental Studies, RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, Institute for Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, as well as representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo, Russian Ministry for Education and Science,Zarubezhneft oil company and Business Council for Cooperation with Vietnam.

On December 2, 2014, the Russian International Affairs Council held the invitations-only roundtable "Russia-Vietnam: Proposals for a Strategic Partnership" with participation of experts from RAS Institute for Oriental Studies, RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, Institute for Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, as well as representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo, Russian Ministry for Education and Science,Zarubezhneft oil company and Business Council for Cooperation with Vietnam.

Opened by RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov, the event focused on the recent visit to Russia of the Vietnamese Communist Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong and key aspects of the bilateral relationship, with special attention given to most promising areas for cooperation and feasible projects.

The discussion was centered on a memo covering Russia-Vietnam relations prepared for RIAC by Vladimir Mazyrin and Eugeny Kobelev, analysts of RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies. RIAC plans to use the proposals for development of recommendations aimed to materialize Russia's interests related with Vietnam.
