On April 13, 2012 there took place the workshop “Cooperation in the area of mineral and other natural fossil resources exploitation of the Arctic Ocean seabed, including the Arctic continental shelf” conducted within the framework of the Council’s project “The roadmap for the international cooperation in the Arctic”.

The agenda of the workshop included such items as legal framework for the production and exploitation of the Arctic mineral resources, economic strategies of the state and business for exploration of the Arctic’s mineral resources, and the prospects for international cooperation in this region’s resources exploitation.

Among the participants to the expert meeting were following experts - A. Vylegzhanin, head of MGIMO International Law department, B. Smyslov, Vice-President of the International Maritime Law Association, I. Zhudro, chief advisor of the President’s Administration Directorate on Russia’s foreign policy, V. Tsarev, class 3 State advisor, advisor of the State Duma, D. Gonchar, Deputy Director of the Legal Department of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I. Glumov, advisor of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, I. Bunik, head of the unit at the Council for the Development of Productive Forces (CDPF), N. Hludnev, leading research fellow at the Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Resources Legislation Department of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation, P. Gudev, senior research fellow of the CDPF’s Global Ocean Centre, S. Gureev, Professor of the Russia’s FSB Research Centre and Y. Krasnov, Professor of MGIMO University at the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The expert meeting was inaugurated by I. Timofeev, RIAC’s Program Director.

The agenda of the workshop included such items as legal framework for the production and exploitation of the Arctic mineral resources, economic strategies of the state and business for exploration of the Arctic’s mineral resources, and the prospects for international cooperation in this region’s resources exploitation.
