In the course of the meeting Academician A. Chubaryan, Director of the General History Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and I. Yurgens, Chairman of the Institute of Contemporary Development Foundation, presented expert reports on the key issues concerning the region. A. Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and S. Borisov, President of the All-Russian Non-governmental Organization of Small and Medium Business “OPORA RUSSIA”, added to the discussion with respect of participation of Kaliningrad in the Baltic region`s affairs.
A. Malygin, Advisor to the Rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented a joint project of the University and the RIAC for the Baltic countries. The project presentation caused a heated discussion, in the course of which A. Belonogov, Russian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, R. Berdnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Board, Member of the Board of OJSC Federal Network Company of the Unified Energy System, Academician V. Zhurkin, Honorary Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician A. Vasilyev, Director of the Institute of Africa of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician V. Baranovsky, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, V. Koksharov, Rector of the Ural Federal University, and other invited members of the Council shared their opinions.
The meeting results were summarized by A. Kortunov, General Director of the RIAC. He made proposals on the issues discussion format and main directions of the work with the Baltic countries.
