On January 29, 2021, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), together with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, held a joint workshop on sanctions policy: risks for Russian and Korean business. The event was attended by representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), private companies, and research centers. RIAC was represented by Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General; Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs; Ksenia Kuzmina and Vladimir Morozov, RIAC Program Managers, Pyotr Kortunov, RIAC Program Coordinator, and Yulia Timofeeva, RIAC Program Assistant.

As part of the workshop, Ivan Timofeev made an overview of current global trends in sanctions policy in 2020 and a forecast for 2021, taking into account the practice of compliance with sanctions regimes by international business, key risks in the field of compliance, and control over compliance with sanctions regimes by American regulators. The participants also discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral trade and economic partnership in the face of growing sanctions restrictions, the possibility of overcoming sanctions risks, and the prospects for the development of the U.S. sanctions policy under the Biden Administration.
