On September 29, 2021, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) hosted the first workshop on security issues within the framework of the project “A New Agenda for Russia–UK Relations” and its sub-component on strategic stability, arms control, and cooperation in space.
The workshop consisted of two sessions and focused on the following issues: the definition of strategic stability for the nuclear weapon states; levels of stability in the arms race and the absence of incentives in both countries to build up nuclear forces; the deployment of conventional weapons in Russia and changes in the nuclear policy in the UK included in the Integrated Review overarching national security and international policy objectives until 2030.

The second session of the workshop focused on the risks of escalation in relations between Russia and Great Britain in the Balkans in the Black and Baltic Seas.
The workshop was attended by leading experts on security issues of the two countries.
The second workshop on strategic stability, arms control, and cooperation in space will be held on November 11, 2021, and will be devoted to slowing the arms race.
