On June 24th, 2015, representatives of the RIAC and the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China (NDRC) discussed opportunities for cooperation. The Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) received a delegation from the NDRC’s Academy of Macroeconomic Research, led by Vice President of the Academy Ma Xiaohe. The meeting was opened by RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov, who told the Academy’s representatives about the activities of the Council and the outcomes of the conference Russia and China: A New Partnership in a Changing World, held on May 29th in Moscow by the RIAC in cooperation with the RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, and shared the Council’s plans of further joint projects with China.

From the Russian side, the meeting was also attended by Igor Demisov, Senior Research Fellow of the Institute for International Studies at the Russian Foreign Ministry's MGIMO University, Chief Research Fellow of the RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies Vladimir Petrovsky, the RIAC’s programme manager Lyudmila Filippova and programme assistant Darya Kholopova.

The parties exchanged their views of the issues related to the prospects of the Eurasian Economic Union, to the formation of the free trade zone in the Northeastern Asia, and to the economic risks of the One Belt, One Road strategy. The attendees also recognized the need to establish a dialogue between representatives of the Russian and Chinese expert communities.

The participants expressed their interest in furthering their cooperation through joint projects.
