On June 20, 2019, in Moscow, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and ICRC Regional Delegation in the Russian Federation, Belarus, and Moldova held a consultation on regional problems and humanitarian challenges in cross-border regions of Syria.
The purpose of the event was to discuss the situation, including the main humanitarian problems, in Syria and neighboring countries. Three sessions were held within the framework of the consultations focusing on the following topics:
— Overview of the current situation and problems that residents in Syria and neighboring countries are facing.
— Unresolved regional issues affecting Syria and its neighbors, and the spread of the effects of the conflict on neighboring states.
— The role of states and humanitarian organizations in providing assistance and protection to refugees from Syria in neighboring countries.
The event was attended by staff members of RIAC, ICRC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and leading Russian scientific institutions: RAS Institute of Oriental Studies, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow State University, MGIMO MFA of Russia, and other.
