On November 13–14, 2017, Astana hosted the third meeting of Astana Club, an international discussion platform, organized by the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation. The event brought together 56 political analysts, diplomats, economists, and social activists from over 20 countries, who discussed a number of Eurasian and global development issues.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan, made a speech at the meeting of the club in which he underscored the obviousness of the sharp fragmentation of the global economic and technological space, the formation of the new world order in trade by creating large blocs around competing economic centers. This might lead to the decrease of the role of the World Trade Organization and the increase of protectionism.
