On August 20, 2021, the International Crisis Group held an expert meeting on the latest developments in Afghanistan and the possible future of Afghan statehood. The discussion focused on the risk of catastrophic humanitarian consequences in certain regions of the country associated with the suspension of assistance to Afghanistan by international development institutions, government, and private foundations of the United States and other Western countries.

Laurel Miller, Director of International Crisis Group's Asia Program, and Ibraheem Bahiss, Crisis Group Expert on Afghanistan, spoke at the meeting. The event was moderated by Richard Atwood, Crisis Group's Interim President. Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, took part in the meeting.
