On September 10, RIAC hosted an expert meeting titled "Russian-Indian relations: the new agenda of economic and trade relations". The meeting was the first event of the project "Russia-India: to a new agenda of bilateral relations".
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Army General V.I Trubnikov, chaired the seminar. The seminar was co-chaired by chief researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Science, A.G. Volodin, and Professor S.I. Lunev of the Department of Oriental Studies, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

RIAC President Igor Ivanov and RIAC General Director Andrei Kortunov opened the meeting.

Experts from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation attended the meeting.

The following issues were discussed at the seminar:

  • Development prospects of the Indian economy and the forecast for its place in the world economy: implications for Russia.
  • Traditional areas of trade and economic relations between Russia and India: the safety margin and development prospects.
  • Challenges and prospects of energy cooperation between Russia and India
  • Potential for cooperation in agriculture and biotechnology.
  • The North-South transport corridor: implications for Russian-Indian trade relations and the project completion prospects.
  • The IT component of Russian-Indian economic relations: challenges and opportunities.
  • Expansion of financial, investment and business cooperation: prerequisites and obstacles.

An analytical report will be prepared on the basis of the seminar results.

Three more expert meetings on military-technical cooperation, humanitarian and social cooperation, and bilateral cooperation on international and regional issues are also planned to be held as part of the project.
