On May 16, 2016 a group of RIAC members met with a delegation of British parliamentarians headed by Chairman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee Crispin Blunt. The meeting took place at the residence of the British Ambassador to Russia. The delegation has arrived to Moscow from London for consultations with their counterparts in the State Duma. This visit denotes the first step in restoration of Russian-British inter-Parliamentary contacts, suspended in early 2014.

On May 16, 2016 a group of RIAC members met with a delegation of UK parliamentarians headed by Chairman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee Crispin Blunt. The meeting took place at the residence of the British Ambassador to Russia.

The delegation has arrived to Moscow from London for consultations with their counterparts in the State Duma. This visit denotes the first step in restoration of Russia-UK inter-Parliamentary contacts, suspended in early 2014.

The Russian side at the meeting was represented by Alexandr Dynkin, RIAC member, Director of the Institute for World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences Full Member; RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov; Director of the Carnegie Moscow Center Dmitri Trenin; and well-known journalists Vladimir Pozner and Konstantin von Eggert.

Apart from the five members of the House of Commons, the British participants included staffers of the UK Parliament and the British Embassy in Moscow. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Laurie Bristow, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Russia. The discussion covered topical issues of Russia-UK relations, Russia’s relationship with the European Union, the situation in the Middle East, ways to resolve the crisis over Ukraine, and other pressing problems of the present-day international life.

On May 17, the British delegation is scheduled to meet with Alexey Pushkov, RIAC member, Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the State Duma.
