On June 25, 2015, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) will hold a press conference with former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai at the press centre of the International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya. The withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan in 2014 was supposed to symbolize the qualitative improvement of the security situation in the country, the beginning of a peaceful period of development. However, problems of political stability remain, and the risks of the situation in Afghanistan and the neighbouring regions destabilizing is still very real, especially in the context of the new wave of radical Islamism that is sweeping across the region and the successes of the Islamic State.
