On March 21, 2016 the Russian International Affairs held a meeting with a delegation of the Defense Committee of the Senate of the Italian Republic, led by its Chairman Senator N. Latorre. The delegation discussed with Russian experts the issues of international security: the relationship between Russia and the United States, between Russia and NATO; resolving regional conflicts, including the situation in Libya and Syria; the problems of the Mediterranean region.

The moderator was RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov.

The Russian participants of the meeting included Vitaly Zhurkin, Director Emeritus of the RAS Institute of Europe and RIAC member; Tatiana Zonova, Professor of Diplomacy Department at MGIMO-University; Vasily Kuznetsov, Director of the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the RAS Institute of Oriental Studies; Mikhail Troitsky, Assistant Professor of International Relations and Foreign Policy Department at MGIMO-University; Sergey Utkin, Head of Strategic Assessments Section at RAS Center for Situational Analysis; Leonid Kadyshev, Deputy Director of the First European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Natalia Evtikhevich, RIAC Program Manager.
