On March 12 Anton Tsvetov and Vladimir Morozov, RIAC officials, took part in the seminar “The Status and Prospects of Russian Military Reform” held by the Moscow Carnegie Center. The participants heard the report by Alexei Arbatov, head of “Non-Proliferation Problems”, Doctor of History, member of the Academy of Sciences, and Vladimir Dvorkin, senior researcher of IMEMO RAN, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Major-General (retired). The report attracted the attention of the military, diplomatic and scientific circles and mass media.

The report attracted the attention of the military, diplomatic and scientific circles and mass media.

The speakers focused on the discussion of the background and current status of Russian armed forces reform and relationship between national defense problems and foreign policy. Approaches to overcoming contradictions of the military reform became the subject of a separate consideration, which in its turn provoked a lively discussion and questions from those present.

In their presentation RIAC officials had an opportunity to acquaint the seminar participants with the outcomes of the Council’s project activities on the subjects under discussion, in particular, the report “Ten Years without ABM Treaty. Anti-Ballistic Missile Defense Problem in Russian-American Relations” prepared under the guidance of Sergei Rogov, RIAC member, director of the Institute for the USA and Canadian Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS member. Besides, the participants were provided with materials of RIAC scientific and practical conference “Euro-Atlantic Security Community: Myth or Reality?” and report “Nuclear Weapons and Strategic Stability: Search for Russian-American Consensus in the 21st Century”.
