From November 28 to December 23, 2022, at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOS RAS), the XVII Conference of Arabists “I.M. Smilyanskaya Readings” was held. The conference was organized by the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies (CAIS) at the IOS RAS. Within the framework of the meeting there were several lections and round tables. Also, there were a number of sections devoted to the history of Arab states, as well as the political and economic development of the Middle East and North Africa.

More than 130 speakers from Russian and foreign research centers took part in the conference, including RIAC members and experts: Alikber Alikberov, Director of the IOS RAS; Alexander Aksenyonok, RIAC Vice-President; Vasily Kuznetsov, Head of the CAIS at the IOS RAS, RIAC Member; Veniamin Popov, RIAC Member; Irina Deryugina, Head of the Center for Agricultural Research and Food Security of the IOS RAS; Denis Mirgorod, Professor of the Institute of International Relations at Pyatigorsk State University; Aleksandr Demchenko, Academic Secretary at the IOS RAS; Aleksandr Yakovlev, Chief Researcher at CAIS at the IOS RAS; Aleksandr Filonik, Boris Dolgov and Konstantin Truevtsev, Leading Researchers at CAIS at the IOS RAS; Sergei Serebrov, Igor Matveev, Gurgen Ghukasyan and Ruslan Mamedov, Senior Researchers at CAIS at the IOS RAS; Nikolay Surkov, Senior Researcher of the Center for the Middle East Studies of the IMEMO RAS; Grigory Lukyanov, Researcher at CAIS at the IOS RAS; Ilya Vedeneev, Senior Researcher at the Center for Middle East Studies, IOS RAS; Dmitry Zhantiev, Associate Professor of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at the Lomonosov Moscow State University; Tatyana Tyukaeva, Ludmila Samarskaya and Ibragim Ibragimov, Research Fellowes of the Center for the Middle East Studies of the IMEMO RAS; Valery Matrosov, Lecturer at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University; Visiting Lecturer of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University;

The meeting was also attended by Ivan Bocharov, Program Coordinator at the RIAC.
