On January 27, 2021, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) held the first meeting on sanctions challenges within the new dialogue group between the two expert centers. The event was attended by representatives of research centers, private business, universities, and law firms. RIAC was represented by Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General; Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs; Tatyana Bogdasarova and Vladimir Morozov, RIAC Program Managers; and Yulia Timofeeva, RIAC Program Assistant.

The following issues were discussed during the meeting: current issues of global sanctions policy, including new unilateral U.S. sanctions against China, Russia and Iran, secondary sanctions issues, the UK sanctions framework after Brexit, application of Russian sanctions, as well as the perception of sanction risks to business.
