On June 1, 2023, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) together with the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ILA RAS) held a workshop on cooperation between Russia and Latin American countries in the new conditions and on the points of economic growth, dedicated to the current challenges and prospects for the development of economic cooperation between the countries.

On June 1, 2023, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) together with the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ILA RAS) held a workshop on cooperation between Russia and Latin American countries in the new conditions and on the points of economic growth, dedicated to the current challenges and prospects for the development of economic cooperation between the countries.

Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director General; Dmitry Rozental, Director of the ILA RAS; and Alexander Shchetinin, Director of the Latin American Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks. Elena Karpinskaya, RIAC Director of Programs, moderated the workshop.

The speakers of the workshop included: Tatyana Mashkova, Director General of the National Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries; Lyudmila Simonova, Head of the Center for Economic Research at ILA RAS; Petr Yakovlev, Chief Researcher at the Department of Europe and America INION RAS, Chief Researcher at the Center for Iberian Studies ILA RAS; Alina Shcherbakova, Associate Professor at the Department of World Economy at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and Department of Ibero-American Studies at RUDN University; Ludmila Nikolaeva, Leading Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Research, ILA RAS; Medina Gonzalez Xavier Vinicio, Assistant at the Department of Theory and History of International Relations RUDN University; Nikolai Shkolyar, Leading Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Research, ILA RAS, RIAC Expert.

Other expert speakers included: Anna Solovieva, Deputy Managing Director of the Department of International Bilateral Cooperation of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs; Oleg Gorlov, Desk Officer of the Department of Asian, African, Latin American Countries of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation; Inna Chuvychkina, Research Fellow at INION RAS; Yuri Moseykin, Director of the Institute of the World Economics and Business at RUDN University; Victor Kheifets, Director of the Center for Ibero-American Studies at St. Petersburg State University, Editor-in-Chief of the Latin America magazine.

The participants noted the unconditional need to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the countries, and also outlined the limitations for expanding mutual trade and the possibilities for their withdrawal.
