On December 24, 2021 the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASS) held a closing event of 2021 — the final seminar of the joint series, dedicated to most relevant issues on the bilateral agenda. This time the round table “The role of cooperation on scientific publications in Russia — China academic cooperation” focused on opportunities and obstacles for scientific cooperation between the two countries.

Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the CASS Institute for Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies (IREECAS), and Zing Linbo, Director of the CASS Bureau of Scientific Research Management, delivered opening remarks.

Albert Bachtizin, Director of the RAS Central Economics and Mathematics Institute, Zing Linbo, Director of the CASS Bureau of Scientific Research Management, Alexander Lomanov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work, IMEMO RAS, Su Jinyang, Head of the Periodic Magazines Department, CASS Bureau of Scientific Research Management, Andrey Karneev, Head of the School of Asian Studies, Higher School of Economics, and Li Zhonghai, Head of the Editorial Board , IREECAS CASS, shared their experience and suggestions concerning the improvement of the verification and assessment of scientific work in Russia and China.

The experts admitted the potential need to make up joint rating systems and databases, comparable in their efficiency with such well-known international databases as Web of Science and Scopus, as well as to carry out joint projects according to common standards.

The main session was followed by the discussion. Among the participants, apart from the speakers, took part Yury Kulintsev, Deputy Director of the RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies.
