Senior officials from the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted a meeting with representatives of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on 21 April. The officials discussed matters concerning cooperation between the organisations, the feasibility of holding meetings of Russian and Chinese experts on a regular basis, pressing issues in current international relations, the situations in Ukraine and Syria, Russia’s interaction with the U.S. and EU nations as well as the current state of and development prospects for Russian-Chinese relations.

Senior officials from the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted a meeting with representatives of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on 21 April.

The event was attended on behalf of Russia by RIAC General Director Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Programme Director Ivan Timofeyev, RIAC Deputy Programme Director Timur Makhmutov and chief researcher Vladimir Petrovsky from the Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The event was attended on behalf of China by Professor and delegation head Li Yongquan, the director of the CASS Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, CASS Institute of Information Studies Director Zhang Shuhua, Deputy Department Chair Li Yonghui of the CASS Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Deputy Department Chair Zhang Ning of the CASS Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Director Jin Zhe of the Europe and Central Asia Department of the CASS Bureau of International Cooperation.

The officials discussed matters concerning cooperation between the organisations, the feasibility of holding meetings of Russian and Chinese experts on a regular basis, pressing issues in current international relations, the situations in Ukraine and Syria, Russia’s interaction with the U.S. and EU nations as well as the current state of and development prospects for Russian-Chinese relations. 

Summarising the results, the participants expressed a desire to continue joint work and development the partnership between the RIAC and CASS.
