On November 13, 2017, RIAC held a seminar within the Russia-UK bilateral project «Defining Dialogue: How to Manage Russia–UK Security Relations». RIAC coordinates this project in cooperation with the Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI).

On November 13, 2017, RIAC held a seminar within the Russia-UK bilateral project «Defining Dialogue: How to Manage Russia–UK Security Relations». RIAC coordinates this project in cooperation with the Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI).

The seminar is part of the second round of Russia-UK bilateral expert seminars on security issues in Russia and in Great Britain that started in December 2016.

The seminar brought together Russian and British experts to discuss the key security issues on bilateral basis and at international level. The following issues were discussed: risk reduction and resolution of tensions in military activity and maneuvers of the two countries; the role of conventional arms control stated in the national security strategies of Russia and Great Britain under the changing multipolar world; nuclear arms control and the future of the nuclear arms reduction treaties; analysis of North Korea threats to international security and elaboration of common approaches to decrease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Malcolm Chalmers, Deputy Director-General of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Tom Plant, Director of Proliferation and Nuclear Policy program RUSI, Sarah Lain and Jeremy Wimble, RUSI scientific staff, took part in the event.

Russian delegation was represented by Andrey Kortunov, Aleksey Gromyko, Evgeny Buzhinsky, representatives of Russian academic institutes, NGO’s, and think tanks.

This event is the second out of three seminars scheduled as part of the second round of the Russia-UK project. The third seminar within the project framework is scheduled for December 11, 2017, in London.
