Canada’s next federal election is this year. It will most likely be held in October 2015. The current Conservative government is hoping to retain its majority through the manipulation of the Ukrainian/Canadian voting base in western Canada by support the Ukraine.

The next federal election could be an historic first with a three-way battle for power among Conservatives, New Democrats and Liberals. Polling has been conducted on a weekly basis on a multitude of questions. Public opinion polls below indicate a very close race between the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) and the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC). Prime Minister Stephen Harper (CPC) currently has approval ratings of 37% (EKOS), 34% (Forum), 49%, (Ipsos) and 37% (Abacus).

If the Russian community is approached to supports one of the major parties (e.g. the LPC) this could affect the outcome of the election in urban ridings in Ontario, and ridings in the Yukon and Alberta. The approach would be of ensuring long term peace and cooperation for the benefit both nations and ending the escalation of hostility between Russia and the Ukraine. In approaching the Russian community in this manner, it will not close the door on the Conservative Party for future endeavors.

The second major concern within Canada is about Russia and its potential for a claim on what Canada sees as its sovereign Arctic region. This could be addressed through the lobbying of a peaceful existence free from the Sanctions which would allow Canada to retain is sovereignty over the region.

The basis of the discussion being that both countries can jointly develop their Arctic region with co-operation agreements and mutual respect for traditional territories. We can open and guide the dialogue for the necessary discussion of the benefits to Canada and Russia with respect to joint development of the Arctic on both sides of the North Pole should Sanctions be eased/removed. This would also curb the USA’s claim on the region.

The required dialogue would include the rights and obligations to Native populations in both Canada and Russia. The protection, exploration, and development of resources through joint Memorandums of Understanding could generate jobs for both nations.

The sovereignty and resource development with in Canada’s north will not be the only concerns discussed with respect to easing of Sanctions. Industries such as pork (agriculture) and arms will be discussed. Leveraging the current situation with respect to global food/drinking water shortages and conflict as being a reason to address these industries.
