On September 26, 2017, RIAC hosted a meeting between Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, and the Research Director from PODEM, Turkish analytical center. Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs, and Aybars Görgülü, PODEM Projects Manager, also took part in the negotiations about the prospects for cooperation between the organizations. The discussion focused on the necessity to promote research in analytical work. The sides were positive about preparing joint documents.

Most pending issues on international relations were also touched upon. Namely, the sides shared opinions on the current state of the Syrian crisis, the role of Turkey in regional conflict resolution, the prospects for Kurdish issue development, and the potential for cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Middle East. The sides agreed to continue cooperation on the research issues of mutual importance.
