In June 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to pay an official visit to China. In the run-up to the visit, on May 30-31, 2016 the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) will host in Moscow the Second international conference titled “Russia-China: towards a New Quality of Bilateral Relations.” Russian and Chinese politicians and opinion leaders, experts and executives will discuss current issues and identify breakthrough areas of bilateral cooperation.
“The more developed the relations, the greater the challenges of enhancing them further. These new challenges require constant upgrading of cooperation mechanisms, as well as searching for new formats and opportunities both in bilateral relations and in the international arena,” RIAC President and ex-Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov notes in his article for Rossiiskaya Gazeta.
“Despite the significant progress made in recent years, the Russian and Chinese societies still know very little of each other and often rely on information about the other side from Western sources, which aren’t always unbiased” the diplomat added.
The conference speaker panels will showcase Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Co-Chairs of the Russian-Chinese Committee of Friendship, Peace and Development Dai Bingguo and Boris Titov, SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov, Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Chamber for Machinery, Technologies and Innovations Viktor Vekselberg, Vice-President of Transneft Mikhail Margelov.
The General Partners of the Conference are JSC “AK TRANSNEFT” and JSC ROSSETI.
The participants will assess the current state of Russia-China relations and put forward their proposals to the leaders of Russia and China on developing cooperation on global governance, trade and investment, as well as on the convergence of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt initative.
A webcast of the plenary sessions on May 31 will be available on the official conference page.
