On May 30, 2018, RIAC 4th international conference «Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era» continues its work. The event is hosted in Beijing on May 29­–30 at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

On May 30, 2018, RIAC 4th international conference «Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era» continues its work. The event is hosted in Beijing on May 29­–30 at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

On the second working day, the Conference discussions focused on the development of trade and economic relations, as well as mutual investments between Russia and China, the convergence of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Belt and the Road Initiatives, and extending the scientific, educational and cultural ties between the two countries.

Wang Kaixian, Deputy Director of the Department of Europe and Central Asia at PRC Ministry of Commerce; Tsai Yun, Deputy Director of IEERCAS CASS; Li Xin, Director of the Institute for Economic Comparative Studies and Center for Russia and the Central Asia Studies of Shanghai Institute for International Studies, Board Member of  CASS Council for Strategic Interaction between Russia and China; Andrei Klepach, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Vnesheconombank, RIAC member; Liu Huaxin, Director of European and Eurasian Studies at Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) at PRC Ministry of Commerce, Member of  CASS Council for Strategic Interaction between Russia and China; and Viktor Larin, Director of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East at the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS Corresponding Member, made reports at the plenary session "Russian-Chinese Economic Ties in the Context of World Economic Trends».

The issues and prospects for economic interaction between Russia and China, as well as cooperation between Russian and Chinese companies, particularly in the fuel and energy sector were discussed in the second part of the session. The following speakers presented their reports: Xu Polin, IEERCAS CASS Head of Economic Research Department; Evgeny Nadorshin, Chief Economist at PF Capital; Shi Ze, Director of the Centre for International Energy Strategy Studies at China Institute of International Studies; Aleksandr Kalinin, President of “OPORA Russia” public association for small and medium-sized entrepreneurship; and Fares Kilzie, Chairman at Creon Energy.

Chen Wei, Vice-President of Chinese Association for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies, and Professor Li Yongquan, IEERCAS CASS Director of the Institute of East European, Russian and Central Asian Studies, moderated the sessions.

The second plenary session on May 30 was devoted to the potential of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Zhao Huasheng, Professor and director of the Center for Russia and Central Asia Studies, Fudan University, Shanghai; Sergey Shakhray, Vice-Rector at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University; Yu Wenxiu, Deputy Director of Heilongjiang University, Council for Strategic Interaction between Russia and China Member; Nikita Anisimov, President of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Shen Shilian, chief scientific officer at Xinhua News Agency, Council for Strategic Interaction between Russia and China Member; and Viktor Koksharov , Rector of the Ural Federal University, RIAC Member, discussed the experience, issues, and prospects for the development of educational and cultural interaction between Russia and China. Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, RIAC Member, moderated the session.

Igor Ivanov, RIAC President, and Wu Yin, former Vice-President of CASS, summarized the results of the Conference.

The event also included the presentation of the first joint analytical paper by RIAC and CASS "Russia and China: Cooperation in a New Era" and the annual joint report Russian-Chinese Dialogue: 2018 Model by RIAC, IFES RAS, and the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University.

The conference aroused great interest among experts and the public and was widely covered in the media of China.
