The 13th Conference “Russia and the World” was opened in Helsinki on October 23. It was organized by the Aleksanteri Institute, a major Finnish foreign affairs think tank, in cooperation with the Russian International Affairs Council, its strategic partner. The forum is especially important for RIAC as its members of staff and experts are given the opportunity to present the results of several of RIAC projects at all plenary sessions of the Conference. Shortly before the conference, the Russian International Affairs Council was presented to the experts from different institutions of Finland, Russia, Sweden, Great Britain, India, China and other countries. The presentation aroused considerable interest.

The 13th Conference “Russia and the World” was opened in Helsinki on October 23. It was organized by the Aleksanteri Institute, a major Finnish foreign affairs think tank, in cooperation with the Russian International Affairs Council, its strategic partner.

The forum is especially important for RIAC as its members of staff and experts are given the opportunity to present the results of several of RIAC projects at all plenary sessions of the Conference.

Shortly before the conference, the Russian International Affairs Council was presented to the experts from different institutions of Finland, Russia, Sweden, Great Britain, India, China and other countries. The presentation aroused considerable interest.

RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov described the Council as a new tool for the Russian foreign policy used to foster interaction of state officials, experts, businesses and the media.

RIAC Program Director Ivan Timofeev outlined the RIAC major spheres of work emphasizing the engagement of Moscow-based and regional experts, which is quite rare for both Russian and foreign think tanks.

RIAC members of staff also presented their detailed reports. Program Manager Lyudmila Filippova described the principles of RIAC operations in solution of analytical problems. One of the most interesting parts of her presentation was the information about a so called “honeycomb scheme”, i.e. the ways of coordinating and managing projects and programs.

Program Coordinator Anna Kuznetsova provided a detailed presentation of RIAC educational projects with the focus on the new A+Standard program aimed at assisting the promotion of Russian business interests in the foreign Internet.

The opportunities provided by the RIAC web-site along with its functions of facilitating experts’ communication and the quality of its analytical materials attracted the participants’ attention.

Questions and commentaries came from distinguished Russian and foreign scholars Viktor Sergeev, Andrey Tsygankov, Slawomir Debski and Richard Sakwa.

RIAC expresses its gratitude to the Conference organizers from Aleksanteri Institute for their efforts to ensure the high professional level of the presentation.
