Worked at the USSR State Committee on Television and Radio as correspondent, managing editor, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Editor-in-Chief of the department for broadcasting to Arab countries. Worked as Pravda daily correspondent in the Middle East. Senior researcher, Deputy Director and then Director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies (USSR Academy of Sciences). Member (academic secretary) of the World Economy and International Relations Department of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Has held high civil service positions, including Chairman of the Council of the Union of the USSR Supreme Soviet, head of the USSR Central Intelligence Service, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, RF Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. Elected Member of the State Duma of the third convocation. President of the RF Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Chairman of the BOD of the federal network operator in the field of navigation NIS GLONASS. Head of the RAS Center For Situation Analysis. President and Chairman of the management committee of the Mercury Club for business, political and cultural communication.

Author of many academic works and publications.

Academic focus: world economy and international relations, Russia’s foreign policy, theory and practice of international conflicts and crises, and social, economic and political problems of developing countries.

Laureate of the USSR State Award. Laureate of the “Man of the Year” Award.

Recipient of state awards from the USSR, Russia and foreign countries.
