Does Finland’s and Sweden’s military non-alignment hamper the development of the common foreign, security and defence policy of the European Union? Or, does it perhaps add something to the common policies? What is military non- alignment today? How does it affect these countries' standpoints and their participation in the CFSP, or in the CESDP? This book provides an account of the development of non-alignment within the broader context of the evolving European security policy. It points out similarities and differences; between Finland's and Sweden's positions and recalls that while 'non-alignment' is a rather vague notion, there is an inherent ambiguity even in the European security policy itself.
