The Gulbenkian Immigration Forum, an initiative of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, launched on March 2006, and headed by Antonio Vitorino, aimed chiefly at sharing knowledge and promoting an informed discussion about the reality of the migratory flows and the challenges of the integration of immigrants in their societies of destination. This year-long conference was based on the reflection, on the debate and on the promotion of a cultural exchange.

The international conference entitled “Immigration: Opportunity or Threat?” was integrated in the commemorations of the 50^th anniversary of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and was the closing event of the Gulbenkian Immigration Forum. This publication contains the respective proceedings.
