About the Conference
In 2016, Russia and China celebrate the 15th anniversary of the conclusion of the bilateral Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation. Russia and China's relations have transformed into a comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, the two states have increased their mutual support at leading international platforms and have come up with new instruments of multilateral cooperation in the framework of SCO, BRICS and other global governance institutions.
Today the alignment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) is high on the agenda. Connecting the two strategic initiatives provides optimal conditions for a new economic and political environment in Eurasia. However, imbalances in the global economic system and Russia's and China's recent economic troubles pose serious threats to the implementation of large-scale development projects and demand innovational approaches to the collaboration.
On May 30-31 2016, prior to the visit of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to the People's Republic of China, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) holds the Second International Conference "Russia and China: Taking on a New Quality of Bilateral Relations". The conference will give rise to the analysis of the dynamics, main achievements and vulnerabilities of Russia-China relations. Proposals aimed at strengthening strategic partnership will be developed as a result of the event.
Programme

Russian–Chinese Dialogue: The 2016 Model
This report presents the results of analysis of the state of Russia–China relations in 2015 and the first quarter of 2016.
Leading experts from Russia and China study key foreign policy interests of the two countries, their trade and economic bilateral relations, including investment, transport and energy projects. Special attention is given to security in Eurasia and the role of multilateral institutions in guaranteeing security, the alignment of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt projects, as well as Russia–China scientific, educational and cultural cooperation.

Cooperation in Science and Education to Promote an Innovative Approach to Russia–China Relations
Amid the apparent limitations of extensive development models in both Russia and China, bilateral cooperation in science and education appears to be an increasingly significant objective in order to build up national innovative capacities. Furthermore, the promotion of academic cooperation between Russia and China is in line with the agenda for multitrack diplomacy between the two countries.
