Worked as junior researcher at the Institute of Economics of the USSR Academy of Sciences; Senior Fellow then Head of Department at the Institute of Economics of the Economy of the World Socialist System (USSR Academy of Sciences); Head of Department of the Institute of USA and Canada (USSR Academy of Sciences); Deputy Director of the RAS Institute of Europe.

Since 1999, Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Managing editor of the Contemporary Europe journal.

Author of over 300 publications.

Academic focus: theoretical problems of global division of labor, world economy and international economic relations.

Recipient of a number of state awards and honorific titles.
