The hostage-taking in Sydney by an ISIS sympathizer, is a reminder that we are in a global war with international, Islamic terrorism – not only in the Middle East but also in North America, Australia, Africa, Asia, Western Europe, Russia and the U.S.  It is a much needed reminder in light of Senator Dianne Feinstien´s partisan Senate report on the CIA and terrorist interrogations.  Indeed, we should not forget Russia is also fighting Islamic terrorism!  The response to the hostage-taking by Sydney civilians is also noteworthy. One slogan became popular as a woman told a peaceful Muslim to wear her own religious garb in public saying, “We will drive with you.”

That should also be our motto with the beleaguered CIA.  No matter how high-minded, the Senate  investigation of “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EIT´s)” may be, it couldn´t come at a worse time.   As in WWII, when we fought the Nazis and their infiltrators who tried to penetrate the homeland, our main focus now should be the fight against this terrorist threat.  Though we are facing large ISIS armies only in Syria and Iraq, their sympathizers are at war with the Western world, including Australia, Canada, and our homeland.

In the midst of WWII, one of our greatest presidents, FDR, did not start an investigation of the FBI then fighting Nazi infiltrators in the USA and interning German born Nazi sympathizers in Central America.  The failure of our Intelligence organization to foresee Pearl Harbor was investigated only after we won WWII.  Roosevelt did not hesitate to deal harshly with Nazi infiltrators s caught on our land.   He had them tried and hung.

Sharing some of Senator McCain´s moral concerns, we must not forget we are at war. Our policy-makers should cease throwing their colleagues under the bus and faking amnesia.   The Congressional Gang of 8 Intelligence Committee investigating the CIA knew exactly what was going on during terrorist interrogations under Bush ´43.  So did Nancy Pelosi, as testified by the CIA´s Jose Rodriguez.  Kudo to Jane Hartman who was somehow critical then and still is today.  Yet, she doesn´t suffer from amnesia.  She admits she was briefed.

President  Bush ´43 should discontinue  painting as Winston Churchill did in WWII and give support to the beleaguered CIA as has his former Vice President, Dick Cheney.   In fact, it would be desirable for all living presidents  to appear with Obama at a White House meeting with CIA Director John Brennan in unified support,   Nor should CIA officials be thrown under the bus as was George Tenet.

President Obama should stop the CIA witch hunt.    Bottom line:  We need bi-partisan unity in the new Senate as we had in WWII.   The struggle with terrorism will continue.   We must win that war, and our focus should be our survival.
