Graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry of Moscow State Pedagogical University and the Dzerzhinsky Higher School of the KGB.
Worked as junior and then as senior researcher at the USSR Academy of Sciences, then in various capacities in the state security organs in the USSR and the Russian Federation (RF); also in the apparatus of the RF Security Council.
