«Triple Win Situation» Benefiting from Migration: Regional OSCE Seminar in Kazakhstan

On June 25–26, 2018, Almaty (the Republic of Kazakhstan), hosted a regional seminar "Enhancing Effectiveness of Migration Policies as a Tool for Regional Economic Stability, Development and Growth in Central Asia».
The event was organized by OSCE and IOM. The discussion was to formulate proposals to optimize the migrant labor flow and ensure a "triple win" situation — when migration benefits the host country, the sending country, as well as the migrant himself.
Elena Alexeenkova, RIAC Program Manager, moderated the meeting devoted to the issues of leveraging the policy on labor migration in line with the needs of the labor market. In the course of the meeting, experts from Russia, Kazakhstan, as well as representatives of international business exchanged views on the effectiveness and limitations of existing methods in assessing labor market foreign labor needs.
Based on the results of the discussion, the experts concluded that only the most accurate assessment of the needs of the host country's labor market can help optimize migration flows and ensure the demand for migrants arriving on the labor market of the countries of arrival.
Some 80 representatives of migration authorities and experts from Central Asia, EU, and the Russian Federation as well as international organizations, business and civil society representatives participated in the discussion.
