Short version

On December 16-17, the Russian International Affairs Council held conference "Russian-Chinese Relations: Problems and Expectations" with participation of prominent Russia experts from Chinese think tanks. Opened by RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov, the discussion focused on the current status of the bilateral relationship, Russia-China interaction on global and regional levels, and prospects for strengthening the bond in economic and humanitarian areas.

On December 16-17, the Russian International Affairs Council held conference "Russian-Chinese Relations: Problems and Expectations" with participation of prominent Russia experts from Chinese think tanks.

The Chinese team included Zhao Huasheng, Director of Center for Russia and Central Asia Studies at Fudan University; Feng Yujun, Director of Russia Institute at Chinese Academy of Contemporary International Relations; Xing Guangcheng,  Director of Research Center for Chinese Borderland History and Geography at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and former Director of the Institute for Russian, Central Asian and east European Studies; and Shi Ze, Director of the Center for Eurasian Security and Development at the China Institute of International Studies and former Vice-President of China Institute of International Studies at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Russian side was represented by Deputy Minister for Economic Development Stanislav Voskresenky andkey specialists on China and the Northeast Asia from RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, IMEMO, MGIMO-University, Higher School of Economics, and Russian Government's Financial University.  

Opened by RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov, the discussion focused on the current status of the bilateral relationship, Russia-China interaction on global and regional levels, and prospects for strengthening the bond in economic and humanitarian areas.

The attendees were also presented the preliminary versions of the Russian and Chinese reports on key bilateral issues. Led by Deputy Director of RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies Sergey Luzyanin, the Russian team includes Vladimir Portyakov, Deputy Director of RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies; Andrey Karneyev, Deputy Director of the Institute for Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University; and Vassily Kashin, Leading Researcher of RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies. Dr. Kortunov has authored the chapter on Ukraine crisis and relations in the Russia-China-United States triangle.

Results of the Russian-Chinese effort will be placed at RIAC website in early 2015.
