On March 5, 2019, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted an annual round table in the format of the tripartite expert dialogue "Russia — Japan — USA". This year the event was part of the international conference held in Moscow “Russia and Japan: Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region”, organized by RIAC in cooperation with the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) and dedicated to the Russia-Japan cross cultural year.

On March 5, 2019, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted an annual round table in the format of the tripartite expert dialogue "Russia — Japan — USA". This year the event was part of the international conference held in Moscow “Russia and Japan: Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region”, organized by RIAC in cooperation with the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) and dedicated to the Russia-Japan cross cultural year.

The panelists discussed the influence of the Japan-US alliance on cooperation with Russia and other regional players, issues of economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as prospects for multilateral cooperation in resolving the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The key speakers included: Vladimir Nelidov, Senior Lecturer at MGIMO, Associate Researcher at Center of Japanese Studies, RAS Institute of Oriental Studies; Anna Kireeva, Associate Professor at the Department of Oriental Studies, Researcher, Center for Comprehensive Chinese Studies and Regional Projects at MGIMO University; Alexander Zhebin, Head of the Center for Korean Studies at RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies; Koji Murata, Professor of the Faculty of Law Doshisha University; Cynthia Roberts, Associate Professor of Political Science at Hunter College New York, NY, Senior Associate and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University; Laura Kennedy, U.S. Ambassador (ret.), former U.S. Special Representative for Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC) Issues (Geneva) and U. S. Mission to the United Nations (Vienna), Board Member at Arms Control Association; and Stephen Noerper, Korea Society Senior Director for policy and education, Columbia University adjunct Professor, Senior Advisor to the United Nations.

The session were moderated by Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs; Kenichiro Sasae, President and Director General of the Japan Institute of International Affairs; and Susan Elliott, U.S. Ambassador (ret.), President and CEO at National Committee on American Foreign Policy. Leading Russian and Japanese experts on international relations took part in the discussion.
