RIAC members are widely represented in the Olympic torch relay for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi among a host of athletes, distinguished political, public and scientific community figures. In Moscow, the group included Moscow State University Rector Viktor Sadovnichy, MGIMO-University Rector Anatoly Torkunov and RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau. Valentina Tereshkova, the first female cosmonaut, lit the symbolic Olympic bowl in the city of Yaroslavl. Rector of the Northern Arctic Federal University Helena Kudryashova was among the torchbearers to take the flame to the North Pole, while Rector of Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University Andrey Klemeshev is to join the event in the Kaliningrad Region.
